Nanoscience Program

Dr. El-Khouly, an Egyptian-born chemist, earned his PhD in chemistry from Tohoku University, Japan, in 2002. He conducted postdoctoral research in Japan with funding from Venture Business Laboratory (2003-2004), Center of Excellence (2004-2006), and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2006-2008). From 2008 to 2012, he served as a specially appointed Associate Professor at Osaka University. Since 2018, he has been a full professor at the Institute of Basic and Applied Sciences, Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST).

Dr. El-Khouly's research primarily focuses on: (i) Solar energy conversion (artificial photosynthesis, solar fuels). (ii) Photochemistry of light-harvesting materials, molecular and supramolecular systems based on carbon nanostructures. (iii) Photodynamic laser therapy for cancer treatment. (iv) Fabrication of novel nanomaterials for removing toxic and radioactive species.

Dr. El-Khouly has published 188 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, including Nature Communications, J. Am. Chem. Soc., and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., accumulating 7500 citations and an h-index of 48.
