Mahmoud Sharaan is a full-time Associate Professor in the Environmental Engineering Department at the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST). He earned his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Suez Canal University in May 2006. He completed his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Port Said University (2008-2011) with a thesis on "The Use of Computer Simulation and Analytical Solutions for Optimizing Pipe Networks Supplied from a Pumped-Groundwater Source". He later obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from E-JUST (2015-2018), with a thesis focused on "A Study for Improving Efficiency of Egyptian Fishing Ports".
He also collaborates internationally, including with the Port of Valencia on the impacts of climate change on seaports, and is a Member of the PANIC organization working on updating the international report: "Planning of fishing ports."
Dr. Sharaan's research experiences highlight interests in areas related to coastal, water, and environmental engineering, specifically:
Ports and Coastal Engineering: Port planning, Coastal Engineering, and shore protection. Numerical modeling, sedimentation analysis.
Water Resources and Hydrology: Groundwater viability and quality assessment
Climate Change and Environmental Hazards: Impacts of climate change on seaports and adaptation strategies. Coastal adaptation to Sea Level Rise (SLR), including beach nourishment and projections of future beach loss. Flood and landslide hazard evaluation and flood susceptibility mapping.
