Biotechnology

Prof. Abdel-Mawgood is a professor of molecular biology at the biotechnology program at the Institute of Basic and Applied Sciences, E-JUST since Feb. 2019. He was the Vice Dean for graduate studies at the Institute of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, Damanhour University, Egypt. He holds PhD degree in molecular biology from Biological Sciences Dept., Purdue University. His thesis title was Characterization of a Gene Common to Cyanobacteria and Higher Plants (psbH) and its Possible Function in Photoinhibition. He then worked as senior research scientist in the Nucleic Acid Chemistry Group, R&D Dept., Promega Coorporation, Madison, WI, USA. He worked on the development of several kits that were launched in the market. He gained extensive experience in the research and development activities as well as product development in the field of biotechnology. Prof. Abdel-Mawgood was professor at King Saud University from October 2002-May 2011. He was honored distinguish professorship (From the president of King Saud University) for establishing Center of Excellence in Biotechnology Research, he was the father and founder of the Center (A SR. 45,000,000 fund from the Ministry of Higher Education to establish the center. During his work at KSU, he was Initiator, principal organizer, chairman of the Scientific organizing committee, and secretary general of the "1st International Conference on Biotechnology, Center of Excellence in Biotechnology Research King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (Feb 16-18, 2009). Professor Abdel-Mawgood was honored two funds from EU, the first was from TEMPUS IV,(Contact Person, Minia University, titled "Establish a new joint master degree in biotechnology applied to agri-science, environment and pharmacology (2014), and the other was from Erasmus+ Programme Capacity-Building projects in the field of Higher Education. Project reference number 561827-EPP-1-2015-1-IT-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP. "Interuniversity Learning in Higher Education on Advanced land Management – Egyptian Country/ILHAM – EC. (Budget 1,019,000 Euros) Universities involved (Alexandria, Cairo, Damanhour, Zagazig) (2015). Professor Abdel-Mawgood is a national key facilitator for ILO in the Entrepreneurship. He attended the following TET/TOT: 1) "Training of Entrepreneurship Trainers (TET), 2) International Training of Trainers Forum, 3-day track on the Learning Management Cycle, Turin, Italy From 12-14th November, 2012, 3) International Training of Trainers Forum: Accreditation to deliver the KAB package as a KAB facilitator, Turin, Italy From 15-23rd November, 2012, and 4) National Key Facilitator Entrepreneurship, ILO. One week of training, Cairo, From 12-19 November, 2013. Professor Abdel-Mawgood is a biologist with love to Engineering. He was honored two projects from ITIDA, Egypt for the development of digital droplet PCR for the accurate diagnosis of diseases. Recently, he is the director and the founder of the Food Safety and Qualty Management Diploma. It is a professional diploma for workers in the food industry sector. Moreover, the current relationship with the industry: consultation with Al Bawadi (Harvest) Food Company for establishing food microbiology lab. Honored fund from Saraya Company, Japan. Project title “New Applications of Jojoba Oil in Food Industry”, 74,000 LE/year for two years. Running microbial tests for the food industry (The lab now is going through accreditation).
